Way back in the early days Nicko’s formal name sake started the tradition of gift filled stockings for the holidays.
As the legend goes St Nicholas, hearing of a local father’s loss of fortune decided to help with the dowry for the man’s 3 daughters. He dropped money down their chimney. The money landed by accident in the girl’s stockings that were hung out to dry. A tradition was born! Now each Christmas eve stockings are left out for Nicholas’ namesake to fill with gifts, coins and treats.
